Q: Why do I need an ASCII-formatted resume?
A: Many companies and recruiting firms request or require that an ASCII and/or text formatted resume be submitted. Several companies use optical scanners or other electronic equipment to search and store resumes. ASCII formatted resumes are stripped of special features that are commonly used in traditional resumes. If your resume isn't created in ASCII format, more than likely, it can't be entered into the resume databases of companies or recruiting firms.
